The Vettoor region, blessed by its natural landscape, graced by the compassionate gaze of Janardhana Swamy, the 'Dakshina Kashiswara' (Lord of Southern Kashi), spiritually radiant from the touch of the great era-maker Sree Narayana Gurudev, and extolled in Puranas and Ithihasas as a holy land, lies adjacent to the sea of Varkala, flourishing in green splendor. The significance of this area, located next to Varkala, is immense due to its historical importance and as a pilgrimage center. According to the 'Aithihyamala' (Garland of Legends), the place referred to as "Vettitthelicha Ooru" (the region that was cleared/cut open) is what evolved into Vettoor.
